The Colorado FIRST community is deeply saddened by the loss of Tony English, a revered Board Director and Executive Director, who passed away on June 16, 2025. English, a mechanical engineer and Army veteran, was celebrated for his unwavering commitment to STEM education and his leadership within the Colorado FIRST organization.

English's involvement with FIRST began in 2006 when he founded a FIRST® LEGO® League team for his children, leading to the creation of Team 4499 'The Highlanders'. This initiative has since influenced over 150 students, showcasing English's dedication to fostering young minds in science and technology. His efforts were nationally recognized in 2015 with the prestigious Woody Flowers Finalist Award.

In May 2022, English joined the Colorado FIRST Board of Directors, where he worked tirelessly to broaden access to FIRST programs throughout Colorado. His passing marks a significant loss for the community, but his legacy will undoubtedly inspire future generations.

Debbie English has been appointed as the new Executive Director and Board Member, stepping into a role that aligns with her extensive experience as a Program Leader for Colorado FIRST and current Program Delivery Partner for the FIRST Robotics Competition. The Board has expressed full confidence in Debbie's ability to uphold and advance Tony English's vision for STEM education.
